Rhumbelow Theatre

Description

The Rhumbelow Theatre as it stands today began in July 2001, while the Rhumbelow Shellhole hall has been used for over 50 years to entertain the community in Durban. The Shellhole hall was built by the service men and women of the 1st and 2nd World War living in the Durban Umbilo area, and was officially opened on 1 September 1929 with much celebration. Since then, it has been used for dances, shows, dinner gatherings, Scottish dance lessons, and a variety of other activities.

The Rhumbelow Theatre has a small stage, dressing room, outdoor area for picnics and braais, two pianos, and air conditioning. Car guards are on duty. Past shows include Platform Jazz, Walking in Memphis, Bent Broadway, and Tales from the Brothers Grimm.
