Riverbend Crocodile Farm
Description
Riverbend Crocodile Farm is a well-established family tourist attraction in Southbroom, KwaZulu-Natal. Besides being home to over 200 Nile crocodiles, the farm also boasts a fascinating variety of indigenous and exotic snakes and a lovely restaurant with a playground for kids.
Visitors can enjoy a day spent learning about the crocodiles, seeing the beautiful landscaped enclosures that are also home to numerous birds, and exploring the “snake house†to see the various snakes that reside here. Explore the education centre to learn about crocodile biology, watch the crocodiles being fed at 15h00, and see the snake demonstrations at 14h50 on Sundays (and some Wednesdays). Other features include crocodile hatchings between January and mid-March.
Reptiles you can expect to see here include the Nile crocodile, as well as South Africa’s most deadly snakes such as mambas, cobras, and adders.
After working up a bit of an appetite, the Crocodile Café will be a welcome sight, offering light lunches and lazy afternoon teas, as well as a jungle gym for kids. The curio and craft shops are also worth a browse with a wide range of products catering for all tastes. Functions can be held at the conference centre and office block, which now houses the Riverbend Art and Wine Gallery. Visitors can admire artwork by leading South African artists and purchase wines produced by some of South Africa’s top wine estates.
