Shelly Beach
Description
The subtropical Shelly Beach, situated in Margate, along the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu Natal, is a playground for divers and holidaymakers alike. The beach is renowned for rock and surf fishing, and boasts the largest ski boat base between Durban and East London.
The beach is protected by shark nets and patrolled by lifeguards during the school holidays. There is a wonderful scuba diving reef around 1,500m out to sea. Much further out is Protea Banks, a world-renowned scuba diving destination for sharks and big game fish. Other water sports include canoeing and boating in the estuaries. The beach is perfect for romantic strolls and the beautiful shells that get washed up on the shores are a shell-collector’s dream.
