St Georges Cathedral
Description
St George’s Cathedral is the oldest cathedral in southern Africa, situated in the Cape Town city centre. It is the mother church of the Anglican diocese of Cape Town, built by Sir Herbert Baker out of sandstone from Table Mountain. The cathedral is known as the “People’s Cathedral†because of the role it played in the struggle against Apartheid. Anyone is welcome to visit the cathedral to learn about its history, visit the crypt, or admire the stained glass windows. Guided tours can be arranged.
