The Gautrain
Description
The Gautrain offers a state of the art train, bus, and parking service in Gauteng. These serves are fully integrated and can be used together or separately by means of a smart card, known as a Gautrain Gold Card. Please note that cash is not accepted.
The system requires you to tag-in when you enter and then tag-out when you leave so that it can automatically deduct the correct fare for whatever service you have used. If you fail to tag-in or out, penalty fares may apply.
The Gautrain offers two train services: an Airport Service linking Sandton and Marlboro to OR Tambo International Airport, and a Commuter Service linking Rhodesfield, Marlboro, and Sandton (east-west link) and Park, Rosebank, Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria Central and Hatfield (north-south link). All stations with the exception of the Airport station have integrated car parking facilities. The Gautrain bus fleet currently operates on 25 routes.
How do Gautrain Cold Cards work?
The Gold Card enables you to load a variety of different journey options, from single “pay as you go†trips, to 7-day and 35-day passes. This can be done at all ticket offices and at ticket vending machines at any Gautrain station. Only Mastercard and Visa credit cards are accepted at this time.
-Purse Section This section is used for general pay as you go travel on trains, buses, or parking. You can top this up at any ticket vending machine as you need it. The amount is automatically debited from the card as you use it.
-Period Pass Section This section stores weekly or monthly travel passes.
