Umhlanga Beach
Description
Umhlanga Beach is a sought after destination in Umhlanga, Durban, and it isn’t hard to imagine why. The warm Indian Ocean waters and the bustling O’Connor promenade that stretches from Durban View Park to Breakers Point are just a few of the draw cards that bring tourists to this clean, sandy beach located on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.
The golden sandy coastline stretches northwards for more than 200 kilometres, all the way to the spectacular iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The beach is fantastic for seaside paddling, shell collecting, sun tanning, surfing, scuba diving, kite boarding, deep sea fishing, whale watching, dolphin spotting, and so much more. Sea temperatures vary from 25°C in summer to 20°C in winter, which allows for comfortable year-round swimming.
The beachfront promenade is scattered with a cosmopolitan collection of hotel buildings and blocks of timeshare apartments that easily represen the tourist mecca this seaside village has become. The beachfront is also host to numerous pubs, restaurants, shopping centres, and more. Dogs are allowed at the northern side of Umhlanga Beach from Breakers Hotel to the lagoon.
