Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve
Description
The Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve is a 600 hectare flower wonderland just 40km from Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. The reserve offers a scenic day out with various hiking trails, picnic spots, mountain bike routes, and a river for swimming.
The diverse scenery within the reserve is truly breathtaking, with a river winding between various plateaus and slopes that each supports a variety of unique, indigenous flora, as well as a host of colourful birds such as sunbirds and sugarbirds. When you visit, expect to see varied plants and flowers such as fynbos, succulents, and proteas. The main purpose of this reserve is to protect and propagate the unique indigenous flora it contains. A visit to the traditional Xhosa umzi (homestead) with household utensils, kraal, and farming implements is worth a visit.
