Description
Wynberg Girls' High School (WGHS) is a public day and boarding school for girls in Wynberg, Cape Town. The school caters for Grades 8 to 12 and has 953 students. The brother school is Wynberg Boys’ High School. It is one of the oldest girls schools in South Africa.
HERITAGE
Founded in 1884 by Kerkraad of the Dutch Reformed Church, Wynberg Girls' High School was formerly known as the “Ladies’ Seminary”.
The school motto is Honour before Honours, which means personal integrity and character are more important than winning prizes and awards.
ACADEMICS
Wynberg Girls' produced the top Physical Science learner in the Western Cape in the 2014 Matric examinations. The Cambridge AS Levels course for English and History is run alongside the school syllabus.
SPORTS & CULTURE
The school is best known for its hockey teams and thriving music department. The most important sports grounds are the Wynberg Campus of Schools Astroturf Complex and the Ballet Hall with its sprung wooden floor. Girls' has consistently achieved outstanding academic results and is considered a Centre of Excellence.
