Isimilela Hospital is a 110 bed public hospital situated near Port St. John’s, Eastern Cape. The hospital serves the Port St. John’s Municipality area with a population of about 165,000. The hospital was built by the Dutch Reformed Church in 1941 and taken over by the government.
GETTING THERE
The hospital is situated in the Gomolo administrative area, off the R61 between Mthatha and Port St. John’s. Tombo Junction turn-off leading to the hospital is situated 24.5km from Port St. John’s on the R61 towards Mthata. The hospital is located a further 16.5km from the turn-off down the gravel road.
PAYMENT
Isimilela Hospital is a provincial hospital, and services are free to pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under the age of six years old. Other citizens are charged according to a sliding scale depending on their income.
