Mitchell’s Brewery Knysna
Description
If you’ve never tried a Forester’s Lager or Bosun’s Bitter, you’re missing out! These are just 2 of the 8 craft beers that you can taste on a tour of Mitchell’s Brewery in Knysna. And if you visit on a Friday afternoon, we suggest you linger a little longer and join Mitchell’s small, yet notorious crowd of “honourary members†in supporting their favourite local brew.
Based in a beautiful region of the Garden Route, where people live in harmony with nature and strive to protect the environment, Mitchell’s motivation behind the craft is presented in their slogan: “Beer. Naturally.†Mitchell’s craft beers have no artificial additives, so you can be guaranteed only the finest quality brew. Great care is taken to create the purest taste and the lack of unnecessary fizz won’t leave you feeling bloated.
Established by Lex Mitchell in 1983, Mitchell’s Brewery is the oldest and largest microbrewery in South Africa. It began as a small business that only brewed Forester’s Lager and Bosun's Bitter for distribution and sale in Knysna. The product was so popular that Mitchell’s opened branches in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Over the years, other beers were added to the repertoire, including 90 Shillings Ale, Raven Stout, and the newest offering, Mitchell’s Cider. The company has grown in leaps and bounds, and is now South Africa’s second biggest brewery. Mitchell’s is a real family business, and most of their staff has been with the company for more than 20 years. Mitchell’s Brewery currently distributes to Cape Town, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape. The brewery will be moving to bigger premises on Waterfront Drive in December 2013.
