House Rules

Important points regarding your stay at Don Don River Mill Lodge:

NB: 🔋🪫We are on a solar supply, so please use electricity very sparingly to avoid the batteries running out.

Please use items such as the dishwasher during daylight hours and also don't use multiple appliances at once as the supply will trip.

🛌 Arrival : Check in time is from 14:00 to 18:00 by arrangement. (We do not reside on the farm, so please let us know via WhatsApp when you are about an hour and a half from Hobhouse) It takes us an hour to get to Don Don for you – so please don't forget.

🔐Gate: Please slide the gate open manually and close it agin.

🛏Departure: Check out time is 10:00 unless special arrangements are made prior to your arrival

🔑 Please leave the keys in the door when checking out.

🪵Wood: Each unit is equipped with a fireplace and a bundle of wood
(Additional wood may be purchased at R50 per bag and settled via EFT)

🔥Braai: We would recommend that you bring a bag of charcoal

🚗 The road from Hobhosue to Don Don is 16km gravel, sometimes the road is good, sometimes not so much... travel at a reasonable speed and you should have no problems.

🚰 The water is pumped from a borehole and is safe to drink - should there be no water, please let us know - you are on a farm and pipes jump loose at the strangest times.

❄ There is a chance that water-pipes may freeze during the night in winter months, please bear with us as this is beyond our control.

💡 If there is a power failure, there are candles & matches on top of the fridge in your unit. The lights will then be changed to a backup battery by our team and appliances should please NOT be used during this time as this is a small reserve battery to keep lights and wifi communication on.

🦟Mosquitoes (during summer): Please bring your own repellent

🐂🫏Please keep the gates to the river and farm closed at all times to keep cattle and horses out.

🎣Pack in your fishing rods if you are keen - we have Carp, Barbel and Yellow Fish in the river.

📶Cell reception is limited to roaming, however, should you need to access Whatsapp, please stand on the stoep at the old shed for the River Lodge

⚙Access to the Mill is restricted. Please steer clear of the sluices and turbines.

🛒The closest town for the basics is Hobhouse (16km), Ladybrand (60km) has a wider range of supplies you might need. (Spar, Shoprite, Butcheries etc)

🧹Johannes will make a turn during the morning at 11:30 to clean your fireplace and braai –please enquire if you need fresh towels. He understands English and Sotho only, so please bear with the language barrier.
