Description

Groendraai River Cottages is nestled on a working farm along the gentle bend of the river at Groendraai, just 15 km outside Vaalwater in the scenic Waterberg region. Guests are offered a tranquil bushveld escape where land, water, and sky quietly meet. The farm is alive with seasonal rhythms, from crops growing in season to bushveld birds calling at dawn, and the slow flow of the river shaping the land. The cottages are surrounded by nature, providing a retreat where luxury is thoughtful, quiet, and deeply connected to place.

Accommodation is offered in 4 comfortable cottages, 3 of which can accommodate up to 4 guests, while Shadowleaf Cottage can host up to 6 guests. Each unit is furnished with cosy beds and bathrooms fitted with either a bath and shower or a shower only. The cottages are named after elements found on the farm, drawing inspiration from the river, the night sky, the surrounding bush, and soiltogether telling a story of balance, nourishment, and stillness.

Each cottage is equipped with a fully functional kitchen containing a fridge, stove, microwave, and air fryer, with some units fitted with extras such as a filter coffee machine and/or dishwasher. The living areas are furnished with air-conditioning and comfortable seating, and each cottage includes a private patio with braai facilities. Outdoor wood-fired hot tubs are featured in all units, ideal for a warm soak under the stars or a cool dip during the day. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout, and the Silver Carp and Shadowleaf Cottages are fitted with smart TVs in the lounge.

Guests are able to enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the Mokolo and Sterkstroom Rivers or nearby dams, and battery-powered bass boats or the provided kayaks can be used on the river. As the cottages are set on a working farm, guests can explore cycling and hiking trails, witness seasonal Amaryllis in bloom, and interact with the farm’s cattle. Whether passing through the area or seeking a full bushveld getaway, Groendraai River Cottages offers a harmonious blend of relaxation and adventure.
