Carlton Centre
Description
Once the tallest building in Africa, the Carlton Centre towers 223m above Johannesburg. The centre was once home to the 5-star Carlton Hotel which shut its doors in 1997, but today remains a popular shopping destination in the City of Gold. The building houses both offices and shops, and has over 46% of the floor area below ground level.
Shops include Reliable Music Warehouse, Timberland, Identity, Cash Crusaders, Dunns, Glomail, Pep Stores, Specsavers, Markham, Mr Price, Foschini, Ackermans, Clicks, Pick n Pay, Jet, and PostNet.
The centre is also home to the Galaxy World bowling alley and entertainment centre. Please nore that the Sky Rink is no longer in operation. Grab a bite to eat from Debonairs Pizza, Nando’s, Chip ‘n Dip, Fishaways, Spur, Wimpy, McDonalds, KFC, or Steers.
If you want a bird’s eye view of Johannesburg, head up to the topmost floor of the building, also known as the “Top of Africaâ€.
