Diggings Site Museum
Description
The Diggings Site Museum is a quiet, open air museum dedicated to gold panning, situated at the top of Uptown in Pilgrim's Rest, Mpumalanga. Here, you can walk amongst the tents, cabins, and digging sites to get a feel of how diggers lived during the Gold Rush at the end of the 19th century - with an exquisite mountain backdrop. The prospectors canvas tents still contain original digging equipment and the Gold Commissioner’s hut is furnished with beds, a clay floor, and old fashioned furniture. Don't forget to check out the sleuce and waterwheel, transport wagons, and stamp battery. You can walk around on your own or arrange a guided tour at the Information Centre.
