Groote Schuur Hospital is a tertiary teaching hospital situated in Cape Town, Western Cape. The hospital has 893 beds and is renowned for being the hospital where Doctor Christiaan Barnard performed the first ever human heart transplant. Facilities include a Trauma Unit.

The hospital is situated in Groote Schuur Drive, Observatory in Cape Town, Western Cape. Nearby main roads are the N2 highway to the South and West of the hospital as well as the M4 to the East. Observatory is located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, East of Salt River and West of Pinelands.
PAYMENTS
Groote Schuur hospital is a public hospital and therefore services are free to pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children under the age of six years old and pensioners. Other patients are charged a consultation and/or admission fee.
