Kamberg Trout Festival
Description
Kamberg, located in the Mooi River valley, is one of KwaZulu-Natal's best trout fishing spots and host of the annual Kamberg Trout Festival, one of South Africa's most anticipated fishing getaways. This famous fishing festival brings together fishermen from all over, to fish and make merriment together.
The origin of the festival dates back many years to Mike Poplett and Bells Whiskey who began the event. They felt that the South African Trout fishing calendar needed an injection of excitement, and, boy, did they provide it!
Since then the city of Kamberg comes alive once every year to the glee of fishermen who fish by day and recount their tales over a whiskey by night. Most of the mornings are spent fishing, and in the chilly evenings people sit together to share a home cooked meal. Many social circles are drawn together for the event, and every boat (and pub) in Kamberg is booked out over this period. Of course the most important event of this festival is fishing, when all the men go out fishing together, not only to catch fish, but to sing songs, share stories and have a good time. The Kamberg festival makes Trout fishing about more than just fishing.
