Lappiesbaai Beach
Description
Lappiesbaai Beach is a superb Blue Flag beach situated in the tranquil town of Stilbaai (Still Bay), between Mossel Bay and Riversdale, in the Western Cape. Lappiesbaai, which means Bay of Rags, got its name from previous years when locals used to dry their washing on the bushes of the dunes. Today, the town is often referred to as the “Bay of Sleeping Beauty†after one of the peaks in the nearby Langeberg Mountains that looks like a sleeping woman.
Set on the warm Indian Ocean, the beach is largely unspoilt and you can spend your time collecting Pansy shells, sun tanning, or taking a leisurely stroll to appreciate the true beauty of the area. Interpretive boards inform beachgoers of the unique features of the rural beach and surrounds for those who are interested. Lappiesbaai is a firm favourite during the winter months when whales can be spotted from the beach. Facilities include a restaurant, ablutions, and wheelchair facilities.
