Rhenish Church
Description
The Rhenish Church in Stellenbosch is part of the larger Rhenish complex; a collection of Cape Dutch buildings which act as a representative sample of all the historic architectural styles that have graced Stellenbosch. The Rhenish Church, however, holds more historical appeal because it was built in 1823 as a school for ‘coloured’ slave children by the local missionary society.
The church is built in the shape of an incomplete “T†and features a centre aisle adorned with a red carpet, wooden pews, large windows, piano, and sound system. Surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, the church is a popular choice for weddings.
