The Wykeham Collegiate
Description
The Wykeham Collegiate (TWC) is a private girls’ day and boarding school in Clarendon, Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The school is regarded as one of the leading schools in South Africa.
The college teaches Grade RR to 12 and currently has 739 students. The Wykeham Collegiate caters for both day scholars and boarders with boarding facilities available for girls from Grade 4 and up.
HERITAGE
In 1878, the Girls Collegiate School was founded as an “Evangelical Protestant Day and Boarding School for Young Ladies”. In 1905, the Wykeham School was established as an independent school for young women. In 1988, it was decided to merge the two schools. The school has an annual Matric pass rate of 100%
ACADEMICS
The Wykeham Collegiate writes the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams. In addition to the traditional subjects, the school also offers classes in French, Zulu, and Sport and Exercise Science.
SPORTS & CULTURE
The college is best known for swimming, tennis, netball, and hockey. It has a renowned music and cultural programme. The most important sports grounds are called Clarkson's and the Leone Hogg Sports Centre.
