Hobie Beach
Description
Hobie Beach is a lovely Blue Flag beach and the top swimming and entertainment beach in the Summerstrand area of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. It is popular for swimming, sun tanning, wind surfing, kiting, scuba diving, jet skiing, surfing, and body surfing. It is also the venue for the annual Splash Festival, as well as Beach Volleyball and World Boardsailing Championships.
The calm and temptingly warm water keeps a pleasant 18 - 21ËšC in summer. The beach is patrolled by professional lifeguards, ensuring safe swimming for all. At low tide, the Shark Rock Pier side of Hobie Beach is fantastic to explore. There are plenty of sheltered rock pools with interesting inter-tidal life, from starfish to octopus, to discover.
Hobie Beach offers close proximity to the Boardwalk Entertainment Complex and facilities include a lifeguard clubhouse, public toilets, showers, swimming pools, and boardwalk. Just a few metres from the shoreline you can find takeaway shops, a beach shop, bars, restaurants, and plenty of public parking. During the holidays, this massive paved area is transformed into an entertainment area with stalls, stages, and even fireworks. The pier provides the ideal vantage point for dolphin and whale spotting.
