The Campanile
Description
The Campanile, meaning Bell Tower in Italian, was built in 1923 to commemorate the landing of the 1820 Settlers. It is located at the entrance to the railway station and docks in Strand Street, Port Elizabeth and contains the largest collection of bells in the country – 23 to be precise - as well as a chiming clock. There are 204 steps to the Observation Room where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the harbour and Port Elizabeth, over 52m above the city.
