De Compagnie
Description
Set on a 16 hectare property, the appealing De Compagnie has plenty of ancient oak trees, flowering plants, and a fertile vineyard that produces many fantastic wines. This 18th century homestead has received a loving re-vamp, and though the materials used to re-create it are modern, it still holds onto its enchanting old-fashioned charm. They offer on-site accommodation, and as arts and crafts are a passion of theirs, cultural evenings with soft music and poetry readings are often held in their age-old cellar.
Their Cabernet Sauvignon has elegant notes and a lingering aftertaste – and the dark ruby wine pairs wonderfully with steak. Their second offering, Privaatkeur, is a favourite of the owners, and with a wholesome nutty flavour and faint berry nose, this blend is very well-received. Apart from these two wines, they also do some brandy distilling, and their Pot-still brandy won the 2005 Michelangelo Silver Award. It's a soft, very fresh and fruity brandy, with just a hint of spicy cinnamon.
