Frere Hospital
Description
Frere Hospital is a 910 bed provincial tertiary teaching hospital situated in East London, Eastern Cape. The hospital is part of the East London Hospital complex with Cecilia Makewane hospital. Frere Hospital was named after Sir Henry Bartle Frere, Governor of the Cape Colony from 1877 to 1880, and was established in 1881.
GETTING THERE
The hospital is located in Amalinda Main Road in East London, Eastern Cape. It is situated south of the N2 Main road running through East London. Surrounding suburbs are Berea, Braelyn and Haven Hills.
PAYMENT
Frere Hospital is a provincial hospital, and services are free to pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under the age of six years old. Other citizens are charged according to a sliding scale depending on their income.
