Port Of Port Elizabeth
Description
The Port of Port Elizabeth is a well positioned multi-cargo port in Algoa Bay, on the south eastern coast of South Africa. The port has direct transport links to the heart of Africa and is equipped to handle dry bulk, bulk liquid, general cargo, and container cargo.
The port has 1 of only 5 container terminals in South Africa and promises high cargo handling and efficient ship turnaround.
Agriculture forms an important part of daily life at the harbour, especially for deciduous and citrus fruit, as well as wool crop. Containers have taken on larger role as Port Elizabeth provides a quieter alternative to congested terminals in Durban and Cape Town. The port has a large open area car terminal and also handles fishing, manganese ore, and petroleum products.
There are no major ship repair facilities at Port Elizabeth, but a slipway is available for fishing vessel repair. Passenger ships can make use of the fruit terminal berths when calling here.
