Knysna is one of the most beautiful and sought after holiday destinations in the Western Cape. However, along with this fame, and rightly so, comes the throng of crowds who also wish to experience this golden piece of land for themselves. Whether you’re visiting Knysna out of season or during the peak season, Knysna Houseboats is a unique way to spend a week or a weekend in Knysna.
Knysna Houseboats, previously operated by Lightleys Holiday Houseboats, offers 6 newly refurbished boats which exceed all South African Maritime Safety Authority operational and safety requirements. The boats are self-drive, ensuring you can enjoy a private holiday with your family. They are equipped with everything you may need for your cruise, and are suitable for up to 4 adults or a family of 5. Captains are offered a short navigational course and no experience or licenses are required – so don’t worry if you haven’t piloted a boat before, most Knysna Houseboat customers haven’t either!
The houseboats are superbly furnished and offer a little gem of relaxation that will be the envy of all passing boaters. The interior is fitted with a cosy fore cabin that has a double bed, storage space, and a bench seat that doubles as a child’s bed. The galley (kitchen) is fully equipped with a stove, oven, fridge, sink, and cutlery and crockery. The dining table in the main cabin converts into a second double bed. The bathroom has a hot shower, chemical toilet, and a basin. All necessary bedding is provided, along with a CD player, Captain’s book, and safety equipment such as life jackets, a first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher. The outside area of the boat is equally as luxurious, offering a comfortable open lounge deck, braai facility, and rooftop sundeck.
Whether you’re travelling with family or friends, you can spend a leisurely couple of days relaxing aboard your floating paradise. Choose to gently cruise along or find a secluded spot to anchor in the lagoon and enjoy the best aspects of the lagoon – fishing, snorkelling, and swimming. Alternatively, you can stretch out on the sun deck and bronze your skin or doze off to the peaceful sound of the water gently lapping against the side of the boat. Kids will be well entertained with tubes for rental, board games, and DVDs in the boat – great for rainy days!
If the above hasn’t sold you already, Knysna Houseboats also offers a variety of services from the new charter based located in Thesen Islands Harbour Town. An assorted catering menu is on offer, with delectable choices of fresh oysters, champagne, beverages, picnic baskets, cold dishes, and braai packs which can be delivered straight to your boat! Other services include staff available between 08h30 and 17h00, pilots to help you park your boat, bathrooms with showers, rentals of fishing rods and towable tubes, re-filling of fresh water, re-fuelling, cleaning and pumping of toilets, motor and oil checks, rubbish removal, and re-gassing.
