If you’ve been dreaming of “sleeping with the fishes”, you’ll be happy to know that it can finally be a reality. The magnificent Manta Resort has opened a magical underwater room on Pemba Island in Zanzibar! Now you can drift off to sleep surrounded by exotic marine life…in a magical floating bubble…

The unusual new room floats almost 250m from the coast and is held in place by several anchoring lines to the ocean floor. The floating structure is a Swedish design and provides 3 levels, each offering its own unique experience. The landing deck located at sea level has a plush lounge area and bathroom facility. A ladder leads up to the roof, which has a lounging area for lavish sun tanning by day and stargazing by night. Then, best of all, you can head downstairs to find a soft double bed surrounded almost entirely by glass.  While in your room, you can watch shoals of fish, octopus, and other marine animals swim by or attach themselves to the glass. At night, the underwater spotlights beneath each window attract the more unusual marine life, like squid, to your line of sight.

A dedicated staff member is always available to provide you boat access to the shore. What’s more, there are no restrictions on the room, so you can stay as long as you want! As you can imagine, the cost to enjoy your own secluded underwater room doesn’t come cheap. Spending just one night in the Underwater Room costs US$1,500 for two people on top of the regular cost of the resort, which varies according to the time of year and duration of your stay. If sleeping underwater isn’t for you, the resort also has a number of seafront villas.
