Summer is in full swing! What better way to celebrate the start of the silly summer holiday season than to join your friends and family for a day at Slanghoek Mountain Resort, in the heart of the picture perfect Slanghoek Valley, Western Cape.  The valley, including Slanghoek Cellar, Opstal Estate, and Jason’s Hill Private Cellar, is teaming up to bring you their first “Slanghoek Summer Splash”, taking place on Saturday, 8 December 2012, from 11am – 6pm.

Rawsonville is a scenic hour’s drive from Cape Town, so lather on the sunscreen, slap on a hat, bring your picnic blanket, and hit the road to enjoy a day of wine tasting, food and wine pairings, a farmer’s market, and loads of live entertainment. Kids will love the beautiful 18-hole putt-putt course situated on a hill of fynbos, as well as horse riding, a jumping castle, and a jungle gym. Other activities that will be taking place on the day (a full programme is available upon entry) include:

  • Conservation Project site visit

Jump on a truck and ride to the foot of the Slanghoek Mountains, where the very unique Slanghoek alluvium is being conserved and restored.

  • Legends of the Valley Hike

This short hike takes you to a beautiful viewpoint in the company of a “Slanghoek Legend” who will teach you some interesting facts, like where the name “Slanghoek” comes from.

  • Themed Wine Tastings

The winemakers from Slanghoek Cellar, Jason’s Hill, and Opstal Estate will be presenting themed tastings that are not to be missed.

  • Owl show/exhibition

Kids will especially enjoy the fun and highly informative owl exhibition presented by a local expert on this beautiful bird species.

Entrance is R100 per person and includes a tasting glass, tasting vouchers, and goodie bag.  Youths under 18 pay R40 and will also receive a goodie bag. Tickets are available from Webtickets. Visit www.slanghoekvalley.co.za for more info.

If you would like to spend the weekend here, Slanghoek Mountain Resort has 8 fully-equipped self-catering chalets, from a 2-sleeper to a 5-sleeper; 13 self-catering safari tents that sleep 2 – 4 people; and 15 grassed camp sites with a stream running through them.
