It’s been a festive week in the LekkeSlaap and LekkeSlaap office as we’ve gathered together as a team to support the Santa Shoebox Project. Together we’ve packed, wrapped, and adorned 30 gift boxes for some of the underprivileged children in our society, proving that the Christmas joy of giving doesn’t only happen one day of the year.

The list of beneficiaries that Santa Shoebox supports grows every year in different areas around South Africa and Namibia, so read on to see how you too can spread some Christmas cheer.

Pledge a box

Over 118,000 boxes have been pledged this year, exceeding the target of 100,000 and allowing the project to extend its reach to include even more centres and schools in small towns and farming communities. That’s a lot of little smiles! Most of the drop-off dates have already been reached, so it’s too late to pledge for 2013, but there’s always next year.

Each pledged shoebox needs to be decorated and packed with a tooth brush, toothpaste, a bar of soap, wash cloth, an outfit of clothing, educational supplies, sweets, and a toy. There are certain items that aren’t appropriate, so double check the list before putting your box together. Find out more.

Volunteer your time

Sign up to become a volunteer or a co-ordinator of a satellite project in your area.  Many schools are involved with the project, so specific roles have been created for 13 – 17 year olds to work in their community during the drop-off period in October. Find out more.

Make a financial donation

The Santa Shoebox Project is an initiative of the Kidz2Kidz Trust, a registered Public Benefit (PBO 930031301) and Non-Profit Organization (NPO 102-098) with Section 18A status, that offers assistance to children in need. The project allocates financial donations to the making up of Santa Shoeboxes where donors fail to drop off their pledged boxes, as well as towards some operational costs. Find out more.

On behalf of LekkeSlaap and LekkeSlaap, we’d like to thank the Santa Shoebox Project for an amazing initiative that brings smiles to not only thousands of underprivileged children, but to the thousands of people who experience the true joy of giving!
