Viva la France, viva la Franschhoek! If there’s only one 21st you get to this year, make it the 21st celebration of the Franschhoek Bastille Festival on 12 and 13 July 2014.
A highlight of the 2014 Franschhoek Bastille Festival will be a troupe of 10 Seychelles dancers and musicians who will take part in the street parade and perform in the Food and Wine Marquee on both days. They will also be judging the Best Seychelles Dance as performed by keen festivalgoers. Get your hips warmed up, because the prize for the best performance is 2 return tickets to Seychelles (departing from Johannesburg), courtesy of Air Seychelles, with 6 nights’ accommodation courtesy of Eden Island Development Company (Seychelles) Limited. Prizes will be awarded on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Food and Wine Marquee, the meeting place of all meeting places, is where you will find fabulous wine and food created by some of Franschhoek’s celebrated winemakers and chefs. This year the marquee will move to the Huguenot Monument grounds with its gorgeous mountain and garden backdrops and parking within walking distance.
As always the town will be a hive of activities, which include the popular Franschhoek Boules Tournament, the Solms-Delta Parade, and the Barrel-Rolling Competition. Other favourite attractions are the Farmers Markets in the Town Hall and the Church grounds, with musicians and carnival performers adding to your festival experience.
